Ok, so my husband has said "no more Target, Michaels or Dollar Tree"!! Our living room has been a craft room for the past two weeks and I think he is over me ;). I changed my color scheme this year since I have been the "ladybug" room for the past 7 years. I wanted to start new and fresh and bright.
My first purchase were some new trash cans for my tables. I got these at Dollar Tree and painted them with my color scheme to make them "cute". You may be thinking- trash cans for tables- huh???? Well, let me tell ya about these classroom management tools. I got the idea from a friend my first year teaching. She also taught kindergarten and noticed that when the children were cutting/gluing at their seats, they wanted to get up and throw each piece of paper away as they cut. So while they are supposed to be working, they are actually getting up and down which is a huge distraction. Here come the idea for the tiny trash cans for each table. The children stay in their seats and throw the trash away at their table. I even made a trash helper job and the child passes the trash cans out, gathers them up and puts them back in their spot. Here are my trash cans..
Hope you can use this idea in your classroom.
Thanks!
Adrienne
